...until about 4 hours later, when the leg got so stiff I could barely move. Lots of ibuprofen later, I'm somewhat functional, but really sad. Lesson learned. Not gonna run until Friday earliest, maybe Saturday. If I can't finish the half, I can't finish the half. It's still better than being long-term injured.

Boo.

Ice, stretch, do clamshells. Don't run on it if it hurts a lot (bike! elliptical!). And try not to worry -- you've got six weeks for it to work itself out.

Thanks for the reminders. Yes, at about Mile 4 for the day I realized that this was just a picture postcard of an attitude problem.

“Commit or don’t bother.” I have another planned 5K plus 5K on July 4 that I think I will have to rethink. Other than that, all races are races. Or fun runs. But I need to decide before the starting gun.

It's easy to DNF a 5K! And much easier than DNFing a marathon.

It sounds like you were never really in this one to race anyway, so I don't even think it counts.

You should try to learn something from every DNF. I did:

Thanks. Yeah, the Garmin always lags, I've learned. But I've been playing with all the different features this week...it's like receiving it all over again. I was thinking maybe I wanted to upgrade, but everything I want is already there (although not as sleekly as the 605 - but I'm not the sleekest model out there, either). Thanks again for your part in it!

Intervals suck when you haven't done them for awhile, but it gets easier. Also, the Garmin has a significant lag time when calculating lap pace -- about 10 seconds. So if you're at "puke" effort, don't worry if the watch takes a bit to acknowledge it.
